Highlands - near Durness, Sutherland
Scottish Viewpoint

Silence is, perhaps, the greatest hallelujah; the silent hosannas of the sun, the stars, the trees and the flowers.

Sutherland North Coast

You will find some of the most fantastic white empty beaches imaginable surrounded by awe-inspiring mountains.  And that is not all.  Take a boat trip into Smoo cave, worth a mention simply because of its name (!) – a spectacular limestone cavern complete with waterfall. Or find out about a dark piece of history, the Highland Clearances, at the Strathnaver Museum in Bettyhill. For those more interested in modern history, the deepest sea loch in Britain, Loch Eriboll, was the base for Atlantic and Russian convoys during World War II.  If you have not guessed by now, this is an area of history. Of beauty. Of wild mountains and spectacular sea stacks. Of secluded tranquil beaches. Of pine martins and golden eagles. Of wide-open spaces. Of dreams. Of inspiration. Of peace. But above all, this is a place of escape
